Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July to our neighbours south of the border! Today is a special day because in 1776, Thomas Jefferson signed the Declaration of Independence, making the United States of America and independent nation. What’s a bigger reason to celebrate than that?

As Canadians, we’re close enough to join in the party… and since we just celebrated Canada’s independence on July 1, we’re still in a partying mood! If you extended your long weekend and crossed the border – here are some of the festivities you definitely need to get in on.

Boston, MA

The annual Boston Pop Fireworks Spectacular at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade will begin on Thursday July 4 at 7:30 PM, with the fireworks starting at 9:30 PM. This event is also free to attend, which makes it lots of fun for the family!

Boston Harborfest celebrates America’s birthday all week long! Events like musical performances and Chowderfest, which is exactly what it sounds like. Visitors to the event can sample delicious chowders from a variety of Boston restaurants.

New York, NY

Big Apple? Big fireworks display! This year, there will be a display of 40,000 fireworks over the Hudson River for the 37 annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks show. There are a number of great ways to take in the show. Whether it is by cruise on the Hudson River, parties on swanky rooftop patios like Hudson Terrace, or among the masses on Twelfth Avenue.

Washington, DC

As the capital city of the United States, it only makes sense that they do Independence Day loud and proud! Celebrations are an all-day event, commencing with a parade along Constitution Avenue and ending with a spectacular display of fireworks over the Washington Monument.
