The Frontier Duty Free Association (FDFA) is the industry association for Canada's 35 land border duty free shops.

This group comprises the "Active" or voting members of the association. The FDFA also has approximately 110 non-voting Associate Members consisting of Canadian Airport and U.S. land border duty free shops, and duty free trade suppliers.

Duty Free Trade Supplier Members: The FDFA Supplier Members represent an integral part of the FDFA membership as a whole. Supplier Members represent the products that each of the duty free stores sell within each store. Each supplier member organization initially applies to be an active member of the association, and based on approval by the FDFA Board of Directors is granted their membership privileges. The Supplier membership is represented by the Supplier Committee (new committee created yearly at AGM), comprised of a supplier member representing the main categories sold within the Canadian duty free industry; liquor/wine, confectionery, tobacco, fragrance/cosmetics, beer, etc. The FDFA Board of Directors and the Supplier Committee work hand in hand on a variety of industry related issues and various committees to ensure excellence in customer service, and to ensure streamlined communications.

The FDFA's primary activities on behalf of the membership includes:

    • Liaison between Active Members and the Federal Government's Duty Free Shop Program. (CBSA)
    • Lobbying on behalf of the Active Members with all levels of government.
    • Represents the members with other industry related associations such as the Canadian Tourism Board, Retail Council of Canada and the Tourism Industry Association of Canada.
    • Facilitates overall communications between the Association and its Supplier Members
    • Government and Media Monitoring, as an early warning system of impending government issues, regulation and legislation.
    • Facilitation and execution of the National Gold Standards Award Program fostering excellence in retailing amongst the members.
    • Annual Convention and Trade Show involving all members. This includes the Annual General Meetings (AGM) for the "Active" members. The convention is normally held in the Fall (November) of each year.
    • Semi-annual meeting of Active Members held in the late Spring or early Fall of each year.
